How is a structural equation model carried out, step by step?
Structural equation modelling is not one procedure but a sequence whose order matters: taken out of order, the result is not interpretable. The paper sets out specification, identification, estimation, measurement-model testing, and only then structural interpretation, for researchers in the social and behavioural sciences, justifying why each decision belongs where it does.
Interpreting structural coefficients before the measurement model holds is measuring a building with a warped ruler.
